Carais Papillons Breeding Policy
The focus of our breeding is, and has always been, to produce healthy
and sound dogs.
It is imperative to us that all our own breeding males and females are free from PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) and PL (patella luxation). Where we have purchased dogs and bitches from other breeders, we expect them also to be healthy and sound examples of the breed, if otherwise they will not be included in our breeding program. When we select a stud dog from another breeder it is because the dog exhibits certain virtues and lineage that we desire to include in our breeding program.
We are not a large kennel, nor a commercial one, we breed only when we want a dog for show, or a dog for our breeding program, usually only once or twice a year. We are particularly selective when assessing our dogs as ‘show prospects’. Puppies are observed closely through their growth stages, assessed at 8 weeks and again at 12 weeks, and then at 6 months of age. Show prospect puppies are assessed in accordance with the Papillon breed standard and must be well constructed, sound and healthy, have a good topline and outline, a correct tail set, a good length of neck, a ‘show temperament’ and free flowing movement.

On occasion we have puppies for sale. We do not hold a waiting list and puppies are sold via a contract of sale. The earliest a puppy may move to a new home is at 12 weeks of age as we feel it is important to a puppy’s development to remain with their mother for this amount of time. Our puppies come with veterinarian certification of health, they are vaccinated and microchipped, they come with an individual puppy management plan, a leaving home care kit and photo album. All our puppies come with Australian National Kennel Club registration papers. It is vital for us that we find the right home for each puppy, as once the puppy moves to a new family it will be with the family for a long time and it is important that a puppy is well matched with their family. We like to receive progress reports on our puppies, and particularly like to see them in person from time to time.
Our dogs are members of our family and live with the family on a daily basis. They are well socialised with people and each other. We are committed to rearing our dogs in a happy and friendly environment, one where they are the focus of our attention. Our dogs are also well socialised with our house cats and they enjoy each other’s company and live closely together.
We are members of Dogs NSW and are registered breeders and abide by the breeding rules and ethics of Dogs NSW.
